Student Organizations - Honor Societies
Alpha Chi
Sponsor: Dr. David Bixler (Physics)
Purpose: to promote and recognize scholarship, those elements
of character which make scholarship effective for good among the
students in the academic divisions of colleges and universities in the
U.S. and other countries.
Alpha Lambda Delta
Sponsor: Dr. Linda Kornasky (English)
Purpose: to encourage superior academic achievement among
students in their first year in institutions of higher education; to
promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning;
and, to assist men and women in recognizing and developing meaningful
goals for their roles in society.
Alpha Mu Gamma
Sponsor: Dr. Joshua Mora (Modern Languages)
Purpose: to recognize achievement in the field of foreign-language
study; to stimulate a desire for linguistic attainment; to encourage a
continuing interest in the study of foreign languages, literature, and
civilizations; and to foster sympathetic understanding of other peoples
and international friendship.
Alpha Psi Omega
Sponsor: Dr. William Doll (Communication, Drama,
Journalism)
Purpose: to stimulate interest in dramatic activities at ASU;
to secure for the university all the advantages and mutual benefits
provided by a large national honorary fraternity; and, to meet the
eligibility requirements of the organization.
Beta Beta Beta
Sponsor: Dr. Crosby Jones (Biology)
Purpose: to function as an honor and professional society for
students of the biological sciences. Its activities shall be designed to
stimulate interest, scholarly attainment and investigation in the
biological sciences and to promote the dissemination of information and
new interpretations among students of the life sciences.
Delta Tau Alpha
Sponsor: Dr. Loree Branham (Agriculture)
Purpose: to provide and recognize high standards of scholarship, leadership,
and character among agricultural students; to encourage and foster high ethical
standards in agriculture and professional positions; to bring together a group
of outstanding students who by scholastic accomplishment, service, and upholding high
standards have been recognized for these traits and are capable of recognizing these
traits in others; and to promote the profession of agriculture.
Kappa Delta Pi
Sponsor: Dr. Marilyn Eisenwine ( College of Education)
Purpose: to promote a closer bond among students of education
and to enter into more intimate fellowship with those dedicated to the
cause of teaching as a profession for which specialized preparation is
deemed imperative; and to foster high standards of preparation for
teaching and to invite into bonds of fellowship those who have attained
excellence of scholarship and distinction of achievement as students and
servants of education.
Kappa Kappa Psi
Sponsor: Dr. David Scott (Art and Music)
Purpose: to promote the existence and welfare of the
college and university bands and to cultivate a wholesome respect for
their activities and achievements; to honor outstanding band members
through privilege of membership extended as a reward for technical
achievement and appreciation for the best in music; and to stimulate
campus leadership.

Sponsor: Peggy Nino (Art and Music)
Purpose: to assist and encourage members to uphold the
highest ideals of their liberal education; to raise the standards of
productive, artistic work among the students in our community; and, to
further the interest of art among the members and the community.
Pi Mu
Epsilon
Sponsor: Ms. Catherine Talley (Mathematics)
Purpose:the promotion of scholarly activity in mathematics among
students in academic institutions, and among the staffs of qualified
non-academic institutions by: electing members on an honorary basis
according to proficiency in mathematics; engaging in activities designed
to promote the mathematical and scholarly development of its members;
and taking any other measures which will further the purpose above
stated.
Psi Chi
Sponsor: Dr. Kraig Schell (Psychology and Sociology)
Purpose: to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in
scholarship, and advance the science of psychology; to provide academic
recognition to its inductees; to nourish and stimulate professional
growth through programs designed to augment and enhance the regular
curriculum; and to provide practical experience and fellowship through
affiliation with the chapter.
Sigma Tau Delta
Sponsor: Dr. Leigh Harbin (English)
Purpose: to encourage creative and critical writing, to
promote community interest, to provide cultural stimulation, and to
recognition for high achievement in undergraduate, graduate, and
professional studies in English language literature.
Tau Beta Sigma
Sponsor: Dr. David Scott (Art & Music)
Purpose: to honor outstanding men and women in the band through priviledge of membership, extended in recognition of musical achievement, demonstrated leadership, and an enthusiastic approach to band activities; to promote a high average of attainment by the performance of good music and selection of worthwhile projects; to provide a meaningful and worthwhile social experience for all engaged in collegiate band work, and to cooperate with other musical organizations and societies.
