Spring 2010 ASU Magazine
The newly released spring 2010 issue of Angelo State University Magazine chronicles the implosion of University Hall, profiles an ASU instructor honored as the best in Texas and takes a look at how parent-student communications have changed along with modern technology.
The cover story takes an in-depth look at the entire process that led to the implosion of the Women’s High Rise, one of the signature moments in ASU history. A complementary story, “Blast from the Past,” recalls the memories of some of the residence hall’s earliest occupants.
“Head of the Class” tells the story of Ellen Moreland, who was named Texas Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
“Generation Yap” examines how the interaction between students and their parents has changed both in frequency and method. It also looks at how different types of parental support and communication can affect student performance.
In the alumni section, “Living the Dream” profiles Dr. Albert Reyes, who used his ASU degree to help him climb the ladder to his current position as the head of an international social services organization.
The magazine’s Along the Mall section includes a synopsis of the new ASU satellite campus in Boerne and class offerings at Texas Tech’s Hill Country locations, a profile of Dr. Detelin Elenkov, the first holder of the Norris Family Chair in International Business, and the results of a readership survey on the Angelo State University Magazine.
Additionally, the Briefs section details the recent increase in both undergraduate and graduate enrollment, plus a host of university awards that range from grants to the Nursing Department to national awards for physics and chemistry student groups and the implementation of the new ASU RadNet station.
In the Angelo Staters section, a summary is available of the many honors bestowed upon ASU faculty, staff and students over the late summer and fall. Updates on ASU athletics are featured in the latter portion of the magazine.
