Academic Minor

Academic Minor 1

Students may obtain an academic minor in Texas and Borderland Studies which provides the basis for an interdisciplinary survey of geophysical, cultural, social, literary, and political history of the southwest and Northern Mexico. Students take selected courses from two or three academic disciplines*: English 335, 3339, 4336, and 4381; History 3301, 3362, 4302, 4325, 4351, 4381; Sociology 3313, 3319, 3362, 4381; Spanish 3325, 3327, 3333, 4381; Communications 4381. Nine advanced hours, including at least six advanced hours in residence, are required in each component discipline that is included in this minor, with a minimum of 18 semester hours completed within two or three selected disciplines. Students must select one course from the following courses cross-listed with USTD 3310 Interdisciplinary Studies of Texas and the Borderlands: English 4381: Texas and Borderland Studies; History 4381: Texas and Borderland Studies; Sociology 4381: Texas and Borderland Studies; Spanish 4381: Texas and Borderland Studies; Communications 4381: Texas and Borderland Studies. **

Students interested in this minor should consult with the appropriate department head and should select courses so that the program in Texas and Borderland Studies meets University Bulletin requirements for an academic minor.

Academic Minor 2

* Selected discipline cannot be in the same area as the student’s major. ** One Texas and Borderland Studies course is required. USTD 3310: Interdisciplinary Studies of Texas and the Borderlands is cross-listed with a Special Topics 4381: Texas and Borderland Studies course in each discipline. The Texas and Borderland Studies interdisciplinary course must be taken as a requirement in one of the program disciplines only.
